Strip Tease At The Office-Green Tip

When we need office stuff...think green. Thinking “green” not only contributes to helping our planet, but also saving company dollars. Purchase a “power strip” for your home office so you can plug all your electronics into one place and unplug them all with a single pull at the end of the day. I did a Google Product Search and you can get a pretty good one for under $20.00. Electronics and appliances eat up energy even when they're not being used. This is know as “standby” or “leaking” electricity.

The wasted standby power of individual electronic devices is typically very small, but the sum of all such devices can be significant. To switch off several devices that are often used together such as a PC, a monitor and a printer it is advisable to use a switchable power strip or surge protector with multiple sockets. It's also recommended that equipment that needs a controlled shutdown sequence, such as I laser printer, not be plugged into such a strip as it can damage them. In those cases it's better to turn them off at the appliance.

A recent study from the University of California showed that the average California household pays between $50-70 every year to keep things humming while their electronics are just sitting around. So thing of what your home office saving might be and give Mother Earth a green strip tease at the office. - CT

Wow, I had no idea that so much power was wasted. I am vigilant about unplugging electronics when not in use...but I can do even more now! Thanks!

I'm so glad you shared this post! There is an unbelievable number of humans roaming our world that really don't know we are continuously leaking/wasting energy. Just think about all the people who leave their cell phone chargers plugged in 24/7 even when NOT charging their phones. If everybody could look around the house to see how many plugs are permanently glued to the wall, imagine the difference . . .
